The purpose of this note is the desire to show us living people who will be happy to become your friends and hopefully reliable partners.
Usually everything happens like this: since I am not an expert in antique and medieval weapons, I find some beautiful photo and hurry to make a 3D model. Our part of the team, which is connected with the production, happily says – "this is it!". Then our historical consultants come and say, "This is some kind of bullshit." They find the necessary photos and sketches and the process of developing the future product begins.
The development of the model takes place quite quickly, but still it takes several days, and often nights.
We base our models on photographs of museum samples, less often these products are created in our time. Unfortunately, the limitations imposed by the material of our products and safety issues force us to change the geometry of products. Personally, I hate the point d'arrêt (the pad at the end of the piercing part of the product) they spoil the appearance of the products and make them thicker compared to the original. So the product goes through more than one iteration until it acquires the final appearance. For example, Sika had at least 3 options
When the model is agreed and all the points are discussed (later you will see how well they are agreed), we proceed to the production of the mold. At this moment, the techies completely become the "masters of the situation", and with a smart look we say how difficult and expensive it will be to manufacture the mold, and the "historians" nod to us in response and assure us that the product will be excellent.
You ask what a mold is, what does it look like? To put it simply, this is a very heavy piece of steel. Its installation on the machine is not complete without a winch. It's not our mold in the photo, but they're all very similar.
And the mold is made on a CNC milling machine, a lathe, a drilling machine, and of course with our hands. Therefore, we can boldly say that our products are "Handmade", this will explain the reasons for the presence of any flaws on the products. (an attempt at self-irony)
And here comes a joyful moment (the foundry sent a dozen castings to the trash while at least something turned out) "historians" come out into the arena and start looking at it with a smart look, and what we got here ... Sometimes everything turns out well, and sometimes not very well)) For example, sika, when designing, we did not take into account that the user's hand would be in protective gloves and made the handle length too small. As a result, the mold had to be finalized.
After manufacturing, we paint the products (you can choose black, silver or individual type of painting) and carefully put them in our warehouse.
Usually it takes us three weeks from an idea to a product, although there have been cases when we did everything in one week.
Our products are made by us with our hands and always in sufficient stock so that at any moment you can always get the desired product.
Now you know how we make our products. It all starts with an idea and a photo. If you have such, write to us and of course send a photo of the product that you would like to see, perhaps your idea will come to life.
With respect, the DOMINUS GLADIUS team
